The banana blossom – also known as the banana heart – is the purple flower at the end of a banana plant. In Southeast Asia, it has been a staple in the kitchen for centuries, while here it’s still an insider tip.

Easy preparation: 

• Rinse: wash well under cold water to reduce salt and acidity
  Drain: let it drain thoroughly (pat dry with kitchen paper for extra crispiness)

  Optional marinate: e.g. in soy sauce, lemon juice, garlic & seaweed flakes for a “fishy” flavor

  Cook:

  • Pan-fry or deep-fry for crispy bites

  • Braise or grill for curries, wraps & bowls
